CSR Man, Does that model have a cable driven unit or electronic?

Bluemeanie - does the larger scale speedo work pretty well after the swap? I always wondered if it would require some type of conversion or if the speedo internals would compensate.

It is not digital if that is what you mean. I believe it is cable driven, why? What is the difference?

Some of the newer kaws (like the '82 GPZ1100) had a speed sensor on the front wheel with 2 wires running to the odometer which then fed the speedometer. Most of our older bikes (1980 and older) have a simple mechanical cable drive on the front wheel that spins a cable and that connects directly to the speedometer and drives it. I'm not sure if the wired speedometer would be easier to convert or more difficult? I was just curious about that.

I suspected my Kz900 speedo was reading way fast. I checked it one day and it is 10 mph fast at 60 mph.

Is there any solution? I suspect not other than replacement.

My speedo is pretty much for style anyway. I have a electronic bicycle speedo that is calibrated using the front wheel circumference. No light but was cheap and is very accurate.

Yup, the calibration is in the spedo. Bolt on part. Mine is off by 8mph (according to GPS) but these spedos are known for that. Will try to find another one which is closer to accurate speed. :)

I've heard that the police units are calibrated and 100% accurate (when new anyway). My stock unit is optimistic by nearly 10 mph. I think that's pretty common with the KZ speedos.

My 82 CSR has an electic speedo and reads 85 mph. so far I havent been able to find another elec speedo that reads 160.I have several cable driven units here that read 160, so if u need a cable driven one I have several and the cables that drive them. I think ur going to find that urs is electric.bj
