Just did WG wiring mod...is this normal?

Just finished up the WG coil wiring mod. Went pretty well. I tested my coil voltage last week after a ride and with the engine off and lights off, my voltage at the coils was 11.03. I just tested today after the mod again with the engine and lights off and the voltage was 11.78, so a good bump, the bike hasn't been rode in a week so I expect it will be even higher after. But I am also doing some carb work and won't get a chance to run it until next weekend most likely.

I did notice though now that simply turning my key off does not shut the bikes idiot lights off (oil and neutral.) The kil switch must also be turned off in order to full shut off those lights.....is this normal? Or did I manage to screw something up? I feel I did everything right. I do also have the Dyna S ignition so I did to the extra step at the end of the mod if that has any relevance at all.
Thanks.

Not normal.
You have something crossed. Don't know what the "extra" is, that you mentioned.

There's no need to implement a dual electrical system when the stock system needs only basic maintenance. I'm real sure the a .75 volt increase can be realized by just cleaning switch and plug contacts.

I drank the kool-ade too. No difference. An extra unnecessary complication. If the stock wires are good and connections are clean and tight, that's all that's required.

I am not a user of the relay mod since it is a band aid for something else that needs fixing: either the ig switch, fuse contacts, or a weak coil.

BTW: when your bike is running, the battery voltage is pushed up to 14V which is a 2V increase over the battery's nominal voltage so you get a bigger increase in voltage just by running the engine.

A new coil can do wonders: I recently bought the $36 cheapo EMGO coil from Z1 and my bike starts much easier now. New coils are more efficient than the old stock ones. That will give you more kick than the extra half Volt on the old coil.

I also agree. Clean the contacts, fix the problem don't bypass it. This is a band-aid fix.

ya know something? that was something i was wondering about.....electrical is not my strong suit, but i m figuring if you are checking charging voltage at the battery, and say you get 14.5, and you get 11 flat with just the key on,you should be getting 13.5 to the coils with bike running.....yes/no?.......

Bounty (& others) brought up the key component here....

Even in bypassing () with the engine running at ~3K to 4Krpm pending models you should be close to 14Vdc on the battery depicting charging circuit, Dyno, rectifier/regulators working to spec...

Your still 2-3Vdc off the mark so something definitely is not correct pre & post coil mod....

This is the electrical checks & measurements for the KZ900... Should be exact or real close to the Z1 electrical....
