Well, I made the ride to the Slab City Riot last weekend. Friday after work I installed a new set of coils, Hooked a big ground strap directly to the motor and went through every connection with contact cleaner to flush out any gobs of Di-electric grease. 11.6 VOLTS AND DROPPING!

Deep breath! It's 11:30 PM. Wifey's got the chase truck packed with all the camping gear and we're scheduled to meet 8 more riders at 9;30 AM.

Someone mentioned checking the stator with a load on it instead of disconnected.

18 v on one combo
6v on the other two. I check it disconnected and get the same reading. Last time I checked this was a couple weeks ago when the bike worked perfect for one day.

I check the resistance and It looks like I have a complete short in the pink wire.
I tear off the clutch cover to get to the wire's and there it is. the wire had broken about a half inch out of the stator cover. No room for a connector, so I solder it and shrink wrap it.

1:00 AM. 12.6 v at idle!

Thanks for all the input on this mess. I'll never know where the problem actually started but after a long chain of events, I have a mostly new and working electrical system. Scott

Glad you got it fixed. So do you mean you broke down on the way and fixed mid-trip? Or fixed after the trip?

Either way, you must've gotten some compliments on the bike at the show. Nice job.

Got it fixed at 1 in the morning. Went home for a nap and hit the road. Here's a pic of Wifey taking over on the way there. She's been right by my side through this whole project. Now we gotta find another KZ to build her dream bike.
