Hi Thom

You REALLY DO need the Z1 Classic service supplement that is available on Ebay- it gives a step by step guide on fault diagnosis.

Do yourself a real big favour!!!

Wiring diagram for this bike is on the filebase of this site. Go to the KZ Information tab above and start digging. I just saw it there last week. Get a print of it and enlarge it.

Hey thanks everyone I am always open to a "fresh set of eyes" type of thinking. I have a repair manual on it's way and I'll be getting the supplement shortly.

So for now I have my impatience to blame, I peeled the harness apart.

I have a sneaky feeling the problem is in the bucket, so I pulled that apart too..

At least I can give the bits I pull of will get a good cleaning :cheer:

It's funny the more I tinker the less I am motivated to sell. I have to apologize for the shoddy pics but my blackberry is a more convenient tool.

While you've got the many and various electrical coonetions open and apart, I'd suggest going to the nearest Radio Shack or other electronic supply stores and buy some really good electrical contact cleaner/preservative called De-oxit D5.

It's website is www.deoxit.com I use it on my bike, car and home entertainment center cables.

When you're ready to re-wrap the harness, I'd suggest getting some of this type tape:

Dry Vinyl Tape From Tape Brothers
www.tapebrothers.com

Dry Vinyl Tapes are non-adhesive plasticized polyvinyl chloride film tape. Easy unwinding characteristics - tape clings firmly to it’s own backing for tight wrap. High elongation and good strength to permit trouble-free binding of wiring harnesses for the automotive industry. Dry vinyl tape also used for plating applications- high stretch, good “cling” characteristics and great conformability provide for superior masking in hard chrome and other plating applications.

DVT-76B 2 in. x 250 ft. Black Dry Vinyl Tape
2 in. x 250 ft. Black Dry Vinyl Tape
Our Price: $6.54 Per Roll

www.wiringharness.com
• Non-Adhesive Vinyl Harness Tape, made to the original mil-thickness.
• Just wrap it tightly around the wires and knot the end.
• 100 foot roll is enough to do 3 to 4 harnesses complete.
• Available in three different widths, as original.
• Correct for all years (1955 to Present).

Part # Description Price
R0058272 3/4" Vinyl Harness Tape, 100 foot roll $12.00

Thanks for the links, this site is the best!!B)

I have a bunch of CRC contact cleaner (plus emery cloth)and a bucket of DI-electric grease.:) Don't forget Anti-seize!!
Dry vinyl tape is good to use that's for sure; thank for that link because we don't carry that yet and the price seems good, LOL Reg electrical tape sucks, my fingers are still sticky from the unwrapping of this harness. :(

Well I broke down and picked up a motorcycle lift from Harbor Freight today (what good is a lift when you have to remove the exhaust?). Then the manual came in the, supplement is next.

Today
I found this part of the harness damaged. I had to pry it apart, heat damage! Looks like I will try to get that harness off of E-bay.

Can anyone with a G1 confirm if this is right? I don't have any pictures to go by.

As I said before, I have an 82 GPz 1100 B2 probably the third generation FI that Kawasaki made. My relay looks the same as yours. The black square on the relay(that's the fuel pump relay)indicates where the black connector goes.

If needed, Z1E carries various plastic terminal connectors and metal wire-end fittings.
