Well I got it to run the other night!!! I think a couple injectors are stuck open because cylinder 1 and 2 filled with gas and hydro-locked. Also I found that when I power the turn signal circuit the fuel pump and right turn signal, signal indicator, and oil light come on. That does not sound right does it?

No it doesn't Is it the wire with the blue tape on it?I'm no familiar with the fuel injection. Why won't it spin over but will start with the kicker? Can you jump the starter? does a computer control the fireing of the injectors? I'd like to learn a little about this problem. I know people swap the FI for Carbs because of injector problems ..I guess that devalues the bike tho. Let us know

Anyone out there know if the light system is tied into the starting system? I spent 3 hours yesterday unwrapping most of the wiring harness, and it's not done. At least my PowerProbe3 came in and it IS COOL!! that's how I found that when I power the front light circuit ground the fuel pump turned on.

There is a guy on ebay called rarecycleparts, who I have bought loads of parts from and they are always clean and meticulously removed from bikes with all the fixings.

He has up for sale a complete main wiring harnes for the G1 for a buy it now of 49.99 dollars. You could do yourself a big favour and save loads of time. I think he also has the EFI harness too.
Search on Z1 Classic & it should come up.

MFolks now that is a cool link, that will come in handy with my 650 build!! I just bought a repair manual from E bay, now I have to wait (I hate waiting!!).

As far as the wires go I have a sneaky feeling that the problem lies in the headlight bucket or the instrument panel.

I have been scouring the internet for diagrams with no luck. Maybe some kind soul could scan a few pages for me so I have something to go by until the book comes in :cheer:

Great find and good luck with it. I got the Clymer manual M359-3 for the '73 to '87 Z and Kz. I has a wiring diagram and includes the supplements. If the fuel pump won't run check the relays.

No the fuel pump runs fine, a customer of mine suggested that I squirt some PB Blaster in the outlet side and reverse the +/- and run a mix of sea-foam (which I swear by) and clean fuel; it worked! The pump was pumping!

The pump works it's just I have to disconnect a ground for the the bike to use the kick start. when I re-connect the ground the pump electric start works and the pump stays off.

It ran for about 15 sec and then died, I did fiddle with the fast idle lever, and at the half way point it wanted to stay running. That's when cylinder 1 and 2 filled with fuel and fuel-locked the engine. I did have wet plugs on 3 and 4, but she wasn't firing on all four. weak spark?
Maybe I am over thinking this
Coming from an automotive background I think either the coil is cutting off (bad wire) or the injectors on 1 and 2 are stuck open.

I'm tempted to buy that harness off of E bay, heck if I put a couple bucks in this beast it would be worth it just to hear it run and ride.

I love a puzzle and this one I might just keep, after all it is a Z1 it's history

If you remove the injectors, be very careful in NOT applying more than 3 volts D.C. to the injector(s) and do it by using a 3 volt light bulb as a current drop to protect the energizing coils.

I have an 82 GPz1100 B2 with some similar injectors and I use a self powered 3 volt continuity light for injector check outs.

Please tell me more, I work with a guy who was telling me about a way to build a FI cleaning bench. It was stuff he did on Benz and BMW FI's as a tech. Hell I'm afraid to pull them off of the bike just because of the seals and not having new ones handy.

I'm not sure of the fuel pressure on your bike, but on mine at idle it's 33 PSI and soon as I open the throttle it goes to 35 PSI.

Some fuel pump and regulator websites:
1. www.fuel-pumps.net/gsl393.html
