I was going down thew road doing about 75mph and all of a sudden the bike shut down. I was lucky enough to pull on the side of the road. The lights work and headlight goes on but wont start. Why would it just shut off like that going down the road?

Loose battery cables? Maybe tight enough for lights but not for high current draw.

There was a complete loss of power. Nothing until I pulled over...only the head light worked. Battery cables were tight.

Might specify if the starter is working or not.

If it cranks but wont' fire, check the circuit that powers the ignition coils.

Time to get out the multimeter and see where power is and isn't. I'd open up the headlight housing and check the many and various electrical connectors.

On my 82 GPz1100 B2, a six pin connector controls the run/start switch that powers the ignition coils.Red wire
in and red with yellow stripe out.

Yours may have loose wires/corrosion requiring tank removal to check the push on electrical connections to the ignition coils.
