Getting The Factory Smoke Back in The Regulator

So I went to go for a ride this afternoon after a pouring rain. When the bike started I noticed what I thought was steam from the rain burning off the exhaust, wrong, it was my voltage regulator/rectifier. My question is how do I get the factory smoke back in the regulator. :P

Kawasaki sells OEM smoke in eight ounce cans, but the aftermarket smoke costs less and works OK.

What's really tough is to get the OEM insulation to go back on the melted wires.....

You got a part number for that smoke? I can't find it. I read on another forum that you could drill a small hole in your reg/rec, connect the exhaust end of a shop vac then burn some blinker fluid, suck up the smoke with the vacuum hose then quickly plug the hole you drilled. One guy over there said he did it and it's been working real good for a couple years. His name is "Needa Jump".

I think I will try the shopvac trick. I will stay away from the English smoke also.

Technically the OEM smoke is out of production so you need to slip the guy at the parts counter a 50 just to see if they might have the smoke specific to your bike in stock. California is worse, they recently outlawed anyone but factory authorized techs from installing or replacing smoke. So unless you already have some smoke on hand you couldn't legally buy it if it was in stock.

ive got a friend who can get ya the right smoke,but you need to make sure youve got the right fittings for the bucket for him to ship it to ya! :laugh:

Ah, yes... the english had a 50-50 chance and got it wrong. My misspent youth in my MGA and building up antique jaguars.

If you are ever cursing over an electrical problem, just be grateful it's not British. The man named "Lucas" was officially dubbed "the prince of darkness" for his prowess at building completely unreliable electrical systems......:laugh:

if the smoke only started when you got in the garage then you should be able to look inside the roof line and see where it gathered...it may need to get shipped out to a guru for a rebuild and that can sometimes take a while.....best just to learn how to rebuild smoke yourself...but wtf...it's your money do as you wish...good luck craig

In kali the EPA requires that the smoke is pre-filtered to remove all the offending pollutants which leaves only Arnold Schwarzenegger fart remnants. Not as good as actual smoke.
