I don't think it would cause any problem removing that stuff because it doesn't seem to hurt anything if the bulbs burn out or are removed. As far as creating your own wiring - as long as you keep the original harness as a backup in case yours has a problem you should be ok. I would just make sure you use as least the same gage wire etc. so nothing cooks. Ed
