... inline fuse snap connector that ran power from a charged battery to the coils????
Am thinking sole purpose of battery was to supply voltage to the coils, and the fuse simply allowed disconnecting battery from coils (akin to switching off a normal ignition).
The Dyna electronic ignition requires battery voltage, whereas points do not.
As I understand the total loss system, only the coils and electronic ignition use voltage from the battery. So the battery charging components are left unused, those being the alternator (aka stator or generator), rectifier and voltage regulator.
While the electric starter motor may be retained and used, it may also be removed to shed further weight. Besides, using the starter would likely suck up way too much of the available battery storage otherwise available for the coils and ignition.
With a total loss system, a kick starter should still be functional.
Good Luck!

The other problem with the Dyna III or Dyna S is that they both use about 3 times as much power, (wasted as heat at lower RPMs), as the stock electronic ignition. This is not good if you are going total-loss.
If you plan on keeping the Dyna III, you'll probably want to get the charging system working well.

Yes, unfortunately true on the Dyna III and Dyna S.
But not true on the stock Kaw electronic ignition (another benefit of the stock system).
Good luck, keep us posted.
