Regarding the spacers, I feel like an idiot for asking before. I just looked at the stock ones I took off, and they have the spacers on them, doh. I need one of those Homer pics

If you can at the earliest time replace the "Suitcase Connector" you crimp on the wires with a more weather resistant type.

sell a heatshrinkable crimped wire splice or "Butt Connector"
that's first crimped after the wires are stripped back about 3/16" and then heated with a hot air source that melts and seals up the electrical connection from the environment.
People that use this insulation displacing connector on trailer wires regret wiring this type as there is no weather protection and soon corrosion sets in and the electrical connection becomes intermittant making troubleshooting a hair pulling experiance!!!!!
