Hey guys,
I am thinking about pods for my kaw. I just had a few quick questions. What size pods do I need 39mm? if I install pods will I have to change the jets if so could u recommend the size of the jet I should start with? Will I have to tweak the ignition timing, coils any of it? I did not know if I would need a hotter spark or not. What kinds of pro's and cons are associated with pods? Thanks guys!!

First of all, pods will really come into there own when hooked up with a 4-1 exhaust. You will need to rejet, ignition should be fine if in good shape. I'm not good at jetting so I'll let others suggest sizes. The nice thing about pods is carb removal, about 90% easier!! The downside (my opinion) is a slight loss of bottom end, and of course water from riding or just washing the bike getting in carbs. I use a K&N in my stock air box, works great.

Strange enough I never thought of water weting the filters during washing, never came to mind. Good thing someone asked. I read in the forum somewhere that when you put on pods you move up to the next biggest jet to get more fuel to match the air coming in. I am having enough trouble keeping my stock filter in my sr dry when it rains, I'm not looking that direction anymore. And BLUE, my parts are coming today from Z1. I am so excited. I just hope I get the right pump rebuild kit. I have pics of my carb in syncing feeling post

I started with the stock filter for a few years, then had pods for about five years, and now am back to the stock air box with a K&N filter.

I found with the pods that the engine would bog down with strong gusts of wind. Also, if it rained the outer two pods would get soaked and cause difficulty starting. I started to carry a plastic bag around to cover them up in case of rain. I finally got fed up and switched back to the stock air box with K&N filter.

Where is that #1 part go? I think it's a baffle plate? I've looked inside my airbox and all I see is the base for the air filter and the 4 rubber tubes from the carbs...:S

That is a plastic plate that bolts to the frame just behind where the two tubes of the top frame rail come together. The only purpose for it that I can see is to keep the air filter in place should it somehow unscrew (not very likely to happen and since it is under the seat where can it possibly go?). All in all it is pretty useless so if your bike is missing it don't sweat it.

Actually, I just removed that part #1 this year, hoping that with it removed, more air will flow into the air box and lean out my air/fuel mixture a bit, as my plugs were always black. I don't know if it helped, as I never checked my plugs. My bike ran great all season.

Hey nick! Why don't you try your air mixture screws? Those might be a bit more help at leaning out your mix, and if not it might be a jet setting or the clip on the needle.

I have thought of doing some of that, but my bike has been running great all season, and I have never even looked at the plugs this year. I'm lucky to get out and ride most of the time, with family comitments and such, that I haven't spent much time wrenching this past year.
