Air filters-K&N or other brand

Going to replace the stock airbox with what I see you guys calling Pods-4 single filters.Should I buy the K&N`s or is there a cheaper but good quality alternative?

I've heard the Emgos are paper elements, non-oilable, and don't last too long? Is this true?

I have K&N's and they are great quality and cleanable/oilable...they will prolly outlast me!

K&N's are expensive, but worth it imo.
There are also uni-filter foam "pods" you could check out too. I had them on a KZ1000 several years back, and they are decent.

I've used the same K&N's now for years.. just wash them out and redress the cloth. and reattach, and go.. I also have a new set of emgos to use on my 72 trident..
Both do a fine job, if cared for propperly.

I like the K&N style but have seen other off brand copies and just wondered how the quality was?

don't have any opinion myself, but i've read a few things lately that say the K&N reputation is based on marketing hype. they flow more air and give better performance, but don't filter very well.

i've read that foam filters like unifilter/amsoil are better than K&N, but i've also read that unifilter is junk. also read somewhere that the k&n is better in a crosswind than cheap paper/emgo.

I know the other brands look like K&N's and may be ok but I've used K&N in all my vehicles for years and trust them...

Everything I`ve heard are the K&N style flow and filter better than a paper element type.They do need to be cleaned and oiled regularly to work efficiently though.I`ll probably by the K&Ns as I`d rather spend the extra $ for a quality part than risk buyin cheap crap.
So-where`s a good place to buy `em?

K&N's on all of my moving vehicles. Clean them about once a year with the correct recharge kit, letting them air dry(read this as not blowing them dry with shop air :blink: ), along with not over oiling them when reinstalled. I see them being sold for $126.00 on ebay for a set of 4. Support the home team and get them from Z1 Enterprises.

Here's what I'm using:

K&N P/N RU1824 Filters are used on my ride. 2 inch inside diameter fits the TK27's real nice.


Paper fibers will swell when they get wet, and most of us clean our bikes regularly, right? Moisture is always in the air, so stock filters should be replaced at least annually.

if you still have stock airbox that is the filter i would use also.

I want the 4 single units.the stock air box is a PITA to remvoe/ replace and the four stacks look cooler.I`ll save the original setup just in case I want to return to stock.
