I've read the topic on petcock issues, my question requires a little more detail. The bike is a KZ1000 '78. To which carburator is the vacuum line typically attached?

Well, I know that on my '80 550, it is attached to Carb #1. I think that some models attach to carb #2, though. There should be an open nipple near the front of the carb for the line to plug into. It should kinda stick out as only one carb will have it (the other three will noy).

mine's attached to #3 - so I guess it'll be necessary to check the manual. ;)

See the "VM Carb Connections" link on my web site. I suspect carb #3 is the vacuum fitting. The other two are vents and MUST NOT be obstructed.
