Stumbles at highway speed.
23 Sep 2006 11:00
was wondering if unmodified carburetors with Pods would cause a Highway speeds stumble ?
Say like im doing 60-70 on the interstate and I have to reach down and set the choke to 1/4 or 1/2 so it will smoothe out a little and accellerate properly, but then when i come to a stop I have to reach back down and open the choke back up and it idles fine.
Just wondering ?
Going to try finding an airbox somewhere. Its the kz900 i am referring to here.

Sounds lean. You have to enrichen mixture at speed and lean it out at idle. Go up at least 1 main jet size. Careful to lean at high speeds can be expensive.

One other thing to consider is fuel starvation. Try highway speed with the gas cap open/unlocked but lying closed. See if the extra air flow in the tank allows fuel to fill the bowls better...bould be crosswind blowing air away from pods at highway speeds;)

Does it only do it at highway speeds? Or does it do it at a specific RPM? If it does it at a specific RPM I would recommend setting the points. Mine would almost refuse to rev past 5500. I set the points (dwell & timing) and it revs a lot better. Not perfect, but a noticable improvement. I've got a new set of points on order and when they come in I'll be replacing them and the plugs.
