On the 76-80 750 twins with the BS38 carbs, that is a fuel adjust. The further you unscrew it the richer the mixture.
I just checked the M1 supplement in the manual and it does not say any different.
To change to 76-80 KZ750 BS38 carbs, you may have to use the 76-80 carb holders.
