The least expensive way to get a set of diaphragms for your 38s would be to buy a spare set from the US eBay using Paypal to convert Aussie currency to dollars and make sure the shipper ships international BEFORE you bid on the auction. Many eBay sellers are beginning to understand that it really isn't much of a hassle to ship overseas and are happy to do so. My supplier doesn't list diaphragms for your bike.

The best ones are probably these and you dońt need to buy the whole thing with the slide, just the diaphragm... So much cheaper than the original part.

I would suggest to glue the diaphram on the slide though, as suggested on their webside.
I didńt initially and the slide started to turn sideaways preventing air from entering through the intake... So a bit of superglue in the slide groove, and your diaphram will fit nicely in.

These guys install diaphragms:

I recall there is something strange about the Mikuni BS-38 diaphragms that makes them a bugger to install. I just bough a good used set of slides from a bike dismantler.

At $110 per pair, plus shipping to and from the UK, I think I'd go for the $40/pair diaphragms.

Actually I went for the Yamaha R6 CV throttle bodies, they look like CV carbs so people don't notice :)

The UK guys also install them. I remember asking them a while back about the BS-38 diaphragms (why they didn't sell them separate) and they told me because they are a beech to install and so they did not sell the rubbers alone.

I have not tried it but from the pictures on the $40 ones, they don't appear to have the "indexing" tab that is needed to align the slide/diaphragm in the carb body? At least, I didn't see it.
