24 Jul 2006 16:51
I'm planning on Changing my oil now. I had a bit of a shock when i realized i had no clue where the oil filter was. Go ahead and laugh at me it's ok. Any advice would be great. This site has been a huge help already.

Hopefully this is readable and helps. Also check out the parts diagrams for your bike available on-line at the kawasaki website.
On my bike (kz9000 the oil filter is accessible from underneath the engine and is inside the case.

Hey friend you came to the right place to ask those type of questions, we all started out the same way.
I have a sweet deal for you, I have a almost new Shop Manual for your bike I'll give you. The manual was given to me and I have no use for it.
Oh and I live in Albuquerque and I travel to El Paso from time to time.
So send me a U2U and send me your mailing address and I'll ship this book to you. :woohoo:

Behind the left rear sidecover on the motor, the one that covers the front drive sprocket.
You will make less of a mess if you remove the filter drain plug and drain the oil out of the filter housing prior to removing the filter cover
And don't lose the spring!!
