Need some Help! was created by KZQ
Hey Guys,
I posted about this problem in a different thread and got no response. I hope you'll excuse my posting it again as I really need the help!!! KZR being an international forum can provide the answers I need, I know it can happen. This part will make the difference between finishing a customization project and just parting the bike out. If you can help me find this part, I'd really appreciate it. I know that Mitsubuisi did not make this part just for Ma Kaw, It's used elsewhere, I need to know where.

I have an 85 ZN1300. I know that the vacuum sensor is bad. Ma Kaw is willing to sell one to me for $648.00. The part number is 21176-1006. It's called a Vacuum Sensor. I can tell that it's a Mitsubusi brand part. It's probably used in any number of cars. Here's a picture of it.

If any of you folks have access to a parts catalog that depicts this tiny bit of extortion I'd like to hear about it. It's about 2 1/4" long 1 1/2" wide and 3/4" tall not counting the vacuum or electrical connections. It's marked with a Mitsubusi insignia and clearly says Boost Sensor on the front edge it has some letters and numbers painted on that say "J9TO1971" then on the next line it has "4507".

If any of you folks can help me find a reasonable replacement part I might not have to part out this nice 1300.
TIA

I think that you will have a hard time finding info for a "boost sensor"... if I understand what this thing does, I think it is called a "MAP Sensor" in automotive systems. Here is one for a Jeep on JCW:

You might want to do a search for "map sensor" in google as there is tons of info for these type devices. I saw a couple references to "boost sensors" and they were almost exclusively in turbo applications. I think these gizmos monitor engine pressure and have a resistor that turns this pressure into a voltage to be interpreted. It then becomes a matter of finding one that works in the same range as the one you are wanting to replace. There were a bunch of tutorials on the operation of these things and a modern car wrench with some FI background might be able to cut through the techno babble and tell you what a good replacement might be for the Mitsubishi unit. I suspect these might not be the same ones they use on their car line... not sure.

I think that MAP sensore are usually pretty standard regarding voltage output range for vacume measured.
If yours has two wires going to it (most do), then measure the voltage on the wires with key on, one of them should be five volts. If it is, then most automotive MAP sensors should work.

Won't hurt to try anyway :)

This is for non turbo/supercharged applications, normally 1 to 1.5 bar sensors.

Thanks Guys,
I'll check the voltage in the plug. I'll bet you're right about it being 5 volts. I'm not afraid of a little research.
Thanks for the direction.
