Air Filter Pods for a 1991 Kawasaki Zephyr 750 C1
Yesterday 11:39
I own a 1985 Gpz750, and have ridden it for many years. I now have a 1991 Kawasaki Zephyr 750 in my garage collection too. I installed a Dynojet Stage III jetting, and removed the factory air box.
The carbs are Keihin CVK32. However, the clearance from the carburetor bellmouth to the frame is very short. 2 7/8 inches max.
Does anyone know of any air filter pods that will fit in that small clearance ?

If you go onto K&N's website then select universal, then tapered pod you can enter your dimensions and it will tell you if they make anything that will fit
Search By Dimension for Round Tapered Universal Air Filter

It will never run at optimum with pods, CV carbs are designed to run with stable air flow which you cannot get with pods.🍿🍿🥤🥤

I have many 80's and 90's motorcycles that have K&N Air Pods with Dynojet Stage III jetting with a 4 into 1 exhaust pipe.
All have ran very well using K&N Filters or air pods.
1990 Kawasaki ZX10 Ninja ZX1000B3
1985 Kawasaki Gpz750A3
1986 Suzuki GSXR1100-G
1992 Suzuki GSXR 1100-N
1993 Suzuki GSXR 1100-W

I just measured the K&N filters from some 29 smoothbore carbs, and that distance is 2 1/2 inches.
The APE filters on my ZRX ( I did not remove one for measurement) appear to be 2 5/8 from the end of the carb to the end of the filter.
I have had great luck with pods, save during strong crosswinds when the outside cylinder on the windy side can sputter occasionally. This does make me wonder how consistent the fuel mixture is normally since the wind coming around the engine can be quite turbulent.
By the way, if you decide on the K&N filters, be aware that the CVKs have a rather narrow mounting flange. The filters have a much wider flange area, but a really narrow clamp. If you mount a filter with the clamp near the filter material, it will be beyond the end of the carb and will deform the filter, and the filter may fall off. The clamp should be installed as close to the engine end of the filter as possible. Yes, I have that t-shirt. On the other hand, APE filter s have a better mounting design, a wider clamp, and cost considerably less, though I do not know if they will fit the 32s.
