Needle Jet Position

I am in the process of putting a rack of Keihin CV34's back together when I realized that when I was taking them apart I didn't make a mental note of the direction the needle jet goes into the body of the carb..
Any help would truly be appreciated.

If the needle jet has a semi circular shroud that protrudes into the venturi it should be fitted with the opening facing the outlet of the carb ( towards the engine )..

The needle jets on this set are flat on both ends. When looking through one end it appears to be smooth. Looking through the other end there appears to be a step in the bore.
My guess is to put the smooth bore end exposed in the venturi. But that is a guess.

Does anyone have an offer to the original question?
