Bench sync
Yesterday 12:31
Ok i have a question on bench sync on a rack if 1977 kz650b1 carbs-i know my chilton manual says use a 1mm piece of wire in the bottom of slides to get all the same. My question is, because it doesn’t specify, which side of slide to do this. I’ve done it the first time in the air box side but the manual has a drawing picture of the process and the bottom of their slide diagram doesn’t have the little notch cutout that the air box side has and if I set the engine carb holder side won’t that put the slide way down in the bore? Right now with the 1mm setting on air box side the engine slide is a perfect 3/32 drill bit high with big idle screw just touching the plate(in other words not turned in to idle just snug against plate) and that’s another thing, where should I set the idle screw when doing this? Someone on here said 1/8 inch-does that mean 1/8 th turn in or 1/8 th gap in idle screw and plate? It really makes a difference please anyone can help me out? BTW the reason that I’m redoing this is my bike just doesn’t idle worth a crap! It runs very well at mid and wide open but then the idle will suddenly change go up then I idle down and it soon goes dead. My carb holders look very good, not hard as rocks and not subtle soft either. I’m waiting (forever) on z1 to send me a new set so I will see if that helps. Could be sucking air but again they look fine to me I will see if they ever ship them. Sorry for the long post and lots of info and questions but I’m at my wits end lol

Engine side to bench sync the carbs.
firstly set the idle screw a couple of turns to open the slides. This will allow you to adjust the idle screw both in and out after syncing the carbs should you need to to achieve your desired idle.

Thanks for that fast answer so I turn idle screw in couple turns, use a 1 mm wire in the engine head side of each slide and that’s it? I’ll give it a try tomorrow and thanks again
