Rebuild Accelerator pump '79 KZ650SR or make it walk the plank?
02 Mar 2026 08:59 - 02 Mar 2026 09:00
Carbs from my 1979 KZ650SR needed some attention and the accelerator pump internals does not look great.
Kawasaki suggests that
43028-1010
43028-1012
Are no longer produced. Suggestions welcome. I guess mine are not falling apart and could be re-used. Wasn't there a thread once here on how the acc pump on these old carbs was best made to walk the plant or blocked off?
The bike is coming together. I look forward to putting a lot of miles on it this summer. Those tall wheels with modern (ish) rubber are 100% wonderful to ride on.

I guess the diaphrams are the only real "wear and tear" part, if the plunger rod on the diaphram has a "wear" ridge causing a tight spot in operation, what we used to do in the car world is rotate them (the wear only happens on the thrust side)

Yesterday 11:56Just remove the actuator rod and leave everything else as is. You may want to up your jetting to match non pumper VM24's.Suggestions welcome. I guess mine are not falling apart and could be re-used. Wasn't there a thread once here on how the acc pump on these old carbs was best made to walk the plant or blocked off?
