Pilot jet plugs
06 Sep 2025 14:34
Hi all, I've been chasing a fluffy hesitant feeling on initial throttle openings. I've done valve clearances and a good carb clean ( twice )
the pilot jet next to the main jet has a small metal plug with an o ring, they're really flat and are a really loose fit, they literally fall out !! ive since found out that they should be a snug fit, ive looked on z power and they dont sell them. Anyone know of somewhere i could source them or rubber equivalents in the uk ? My bike is a 81 kz1000 csr using mikuni bs 34 carbs.

Thank you Nessism, your always a great help. Being a bit green, how do I use that information ? Sorry to sound dim but this is all new to me, loving learning though 👍

Look in your local market for some -006 O-rings. I have kits for sale, also.

On this topic, on my GPz750's BS34's, I do not have plugs over the pilot jets. I bought the bike in good running condition 9 years ago and the first time I pulled the carbs apart early last year, there were no plugs there. Are they important? I also have a stumble off idle and hesitation to starting and idling without choke until the motor is warm.

06 Sep 2025 16:57Some versions of BS34's use the plugs, and others don't. The ones that do, have a cross drilled passage from the main over to the pilot. On this topic, on my GPz750's BS34's, I do not have plugs over the pilot jets. Thanks again Nessism. I've looked at some online, are all .006 o rings the same ? Only reason I ask is the ones I've seen online are a "round" profile whereas if you look at my picture, mine appear "flat"
Is that just because mine are old and have gone that shape ??

I have seen online black plastic plugs for mikuni carbs, these would be a direct replacement ? I suppose it only has to act as a seal right ?

Z power contacted saying they do them ( £7 each, ouch ) but again they appear round profile, mine seem to be flat ??
