Solved carb problem on my VM26 Z1000....
13 Aug 2025 08:23 - 13 Aug 2025 08:35
Hi Z-Fellows,
just to report about some carb problems i´ve fought within the last weeks...
I`ve finally solved the carburetor problem on my Z1000 today!
(The engine was running perfectly, as you could see from the pictures of the vacuum gauges, for example,...the only problem was that after longer rides at low revs, plug number 3 would repeatedly become sooty, causing the engine to misfire and only run smoothly again after hard acceleration...
I already suspected the ignition system: The spark plug cap number 3 was also slightly defective. I had also replaced the spark plug, as well as the ignition coil, and the contacts and ignition timing were perfectly adjusted. So it could only be the carburetor (compression and valve clearance are also in very good condition).
I had searched for a fault several times.
Checked the float level again, perfect. All holes checked for continuity, perfect. Jet size with main 107.5 and pilot 15 also good, needle valve OK, no leak... Hmmmm.
Today, after several carb removals, I seem to have found the problem:
The O-ring between the main-jet holder and the housing was worn out and probably wasn't sealing properly anymore! This was causing too much fuel to enter the intake port, and "blow the sparkplug out" bye continue too much fuel...?!
After renew with a new o-ring and complete the carbs again, the engine runs well, with a "brown" sparkplug, and normal acceleration at lower rpm`s...so i am happy again

I am sorry that i can´t help!!
I´ve found one that have fit in my o-ring sample , sorry, no actual size to report ...but i am pretty sure, the specialists here, like zed1015, ( Rob), or asphalt900, ( Clay), or Nessism, can help with the correct measurements about!!
A little explanation here, because it took me so long to find the solution to my carburetor problem:
I live in a rural area, on the outskirts of town, and as a result, I can usually drive quickly out on free roads and at revs above 3500 -4000 RPM without stopping at traffic lights. It wasn't noticeable because the engine was obviously able to "process" the excess fuel. It was only a problem during stop-and-go traffic or prolonged slow driving.
Normally, i´ve been able to find the solutions for my motor-problems al ittle earlier
...boy, oh boy,..a simple mistake with an O-ring that no longer seals 100% properly...Sure, the O-ring was "formed" by the seat, but it looked round, but unfortunately it obviously wasn't properly sealed.

Thanks @Wookie58
Yes, I sell O-ring kits.
Since I've started selling O-rings in September 2022, both VM and CV type, I've sold 163 sets for Suzuki GS bikes, and 32 sets for Kawasaki KZ bikes. Why the disparity? I don't understand.
