Looking at the angle of the floats I suspect something later like a ZX9 where the airbox is under the tank

I think wookie is on the right path, at least the carbs look like those listed on the Kaw site for the 1999 ZX9.

Are they all 4 in line with each other? If they're in pairs they remind me of the carbs from my old V4 Honda interceptor.

Yeah, all four in a row together. The only markings besides Makuni is the square 105

Info regarding the ZX9 stock carbs indicates that they were Keihin and not Mikuni, so the carbs in question did not come stock on the 1999 ZX9.

Info regarding the ZX9 stock carbs indicates that they were Keihin and not Mikuni, so the carbs in question did not come stock on the 1999 ZX9.
It was a "stab in the dark"  but looks like that kind of set up with the airbox under the tank

Agree wookie, and I still think you are correct in the fact they do look like those where the air box is under the fake tank.
