CV36 Floats -no adjustment possible

Hello there!

I have a bit of an issue with my carbs ion my 1980 LTD 440.

I have set the floats using a caliper to have the exact same height - but once I test it with the clear tube method I get different levels and I am far from the recommended levels according to the manual.
It does not make a difference if I change the floats + valves, it always stays the same no matter what I do.

Here some things I have checked:
- Ordered Re-build Kit for a CV36. The manual says that I have a CV36 but the model number on the Carb does not state anything with CV36 except Keihin. Nevertheless the kit fits well, so I assume I have the right one.
-  Soaked the floats, both of them are working.
- Polished the valve seats
- Interchanged floats, float valves and covers from left to right side and vice versa
- Measured the valves if they are the same

What am I missing? I really dont have a clue what to check next.

Thanks in advance!

BR Luke

Clear tube test can make you crazy!  I've had sets, mostly VM26's, where nothing I did in terms of changing float height, changing float valves, nothing would bring the fuel level down to where it was supposed to be.

A couple of things that I've found...
- when fuel is released, to fill the bowls, make sure there isn't a huge in-rush flow.  That sort of shocks the system, and can overpower the float needles.  A slow trickle of fuel is much better, because when in use, the float bowls will fill very slowly.
- Often times, your clear tube will carry a bubble, and that affects the indicated level.  You need to tap the tube, and get the bubbles out.  Unfortunately, sometimes you can't see the bubble, which will lead you to once again, chase your tail.

For Keihin carbs, get high quality needles like Keyster or actual Keihin.  Most cheaper needles have weak springs in the needle tang, and the fuel level may be higher than necessary because of that.

Not sure if this will help any but here are some specs for the CV 36 carbs that came stock on the 80 440 LTD (A1). Note it lists  both mm and inches for float height, as well as well as other internal parts.
