Isn't that second clamp past the end of the carb and actually pulling the filter off the carb spigot ??

The added clamp (element side) is snugged just enough to align the bands.ย
The purpose is simply to keep the front clamp in it's intended position, preventing it from sliding back...which essentially is what pushes the filter off the carburetor.
I didn't need a new filter set after all!

The rubber became distorted from countless removals and decades of abuse.
One dropped off during a recent ride.ย Found it later in the air box well, and thus inspired my latest improvisation...one that actually works!

That is one of the reasons I prefer APE filters. The mounting flange is a better design and they use a wider clamp.
