Airbox to carb rubbers
02 Apr 2025 08:57
Hi
I have a 1974 Kz400 and the carb to the airbox rubbers are cracked does anyone know of any of these from alternate bikes as I cannot find any for the 400 I was hoping a different model may have the same or have some nearley the same which I could use for replacements
Thank you
Andre

Airbox to carb rubbers are not super critical to optimum running unlike the carb to head rubbers which most definately are.
You could just glue any splits up with no detriment to running.

I wonder if rubber cement would be a better choice here since it remains flexible after it dries?

A better choice would be Bellows adhesive used in the marine industry. I use this stuff on a lot of things. Kind of like rubber cement only better. It seals the rubber bellows to the drive.

I'm not sure how sensitive the KZ400 is, but there are some bikes that will not run right with air leaks in the airbox and/or the boots.

I haven't tried this, but have read of people who cut short sections of radiator hose to connect the airbox to the carb.
If each carb's weight is being supported primarily by the intake boot, this seems like it would work.

I was concerned about that previous bikes I have owned were very fussy about air cleaners which why I dont really want to go to pod type filters

Yesterday 16:13I would be concerned about losing the bellmouth in the airbox ?I haven't tried this, but have read of people who cut short sections of radiator hose to connect the airbox to the carb.

Re: Airbox to carb rubbers
Yesterday 16:57Continental sells a rubber adhesive that bicycle mechanics use to glue tubular race tires onto rims (think Tour De France) they call it rim cement, but you could use any other vulcanizing cement. You can buy it at most good bicycle shops.Hi Warren
