FCR 35mm
06 Mar 2025 18:11
Hello everyone , I have a friend in the U.K who has a set of Keihin FCR 35mm carbs by Bito R&D anodized, for a kz1000 ,They are in nice shape Lightly used, he's willing to sell them to me for what I think is a descent price. still 800 bucks shipped isn't that cheap , they were only used lightly when he bought them , Currently they are on his shelf for a build that got canceled. I have never used FCR carbs before and wondering if anyone had any experience with them. I have been Looking for A set of carbs for an Eddie Lawson replica track bike build with a big bore UT 84 head big valves, lightly ported will have performance cams , I would like to build eventually. I was thinking about trying them out on the current 1980 Moriwaki tribute I had built since its a big bore with a ported head and bigger intake valves by the late Larry C, currently running 410 ape cams . I think the size of that engine should be ok for the carbs and currently running rs34's . Does anyone have any experience with FCR carbs? I do know parts are not so readily available in the USA for these and new they are way expensive, I have seen the price in Japan for the FCR 35 dark anodized by Bito R&D and they are big bucks for me to acquire like over 1600 and that's before shipping and tax , I paid 425 for my mikuni rs 34's in 2010. I cant justify spending 2 grand on a new set of FCR's. Any way just looking for some thoughts on the FCR's as far as tuning and performance, I know they don't have a choke but that's not an issue and I verified there is no wear on the mid bodies were slide rollers Track like I said they are very lightly used. Thery are close to new condition. I think the size will be fine its just I have no experience with this Carb's manners and figured I'd ask , I did notice Bulldock builder in Japan had been using then on there builds . Thanks

Can't help you with the FCR's but I would like some more pics of the Moriwaki for a BOTM feature (have emailed you a couple of times)

I don't recall anyone on here recently ever having tuning questions on them as they are more popular in Japan. The only thing you might have a issue with is buying all the brass required to tune a Keihin product if you only have Mikuin jets. As far as performance there may be a slight gain at high RPM, maybe a couple of HP over the 34's. They are a nicer looking carb, draw the eye more than a RS set, look more "racy".

Hey Wookie sorry for the delay for the pics , I will send some by the end of this week , I have made the purchase for the carbs as I said want them for a future project, but going the get familiar with them on the Moriwaki bike . Injected : you weren’t kidding there is very little information on these carbs in the U.S , everything is in Japanese makes it very difficult and jets are expensive. , everything for theses carbs are expensive. There is no way I would buy a worn set to restore. I only purchase these because they had little use , these were originally sold by Jb bito r&d so hopefully jetting is close , main jets are like 7 to 9 bucks apiece, and that’s just mains , I have no clue to the jetting till I hook them up and do some testing . Might get super expensive quick

I have a set of FCR 39s for my KZ750 big bore bike. They're seemingly the prefered choice of aftermarket carbs for singles and twins. I think the main reason you don't see them for 4 cyl more commonly is simply the cost. They are quite a bit more complicated/refined than the RS series carbs or the CR series carbs. They also have more variables for tuning - which may be a good or bad thing depending on who you are. Its always easiest to get some dyno time to dial in carbs.

Hey doc, totally understand the wows of carb tuning, Currently Just about done with tunning the rs 34s which will stay on this project, it took some figuring out the overlapping circuits and have them dialed in 90% so should be finishing them up this spring, I do like the look of these FCR carbs and have been doing research as to tuning them . As mentioned, they are going to be for a J replica I hope to start in about a year from now , might mount them on this bike at the end of the season to get some practice and would like to see how close they are to being turned, I did mount them the other day just to see how they looked and the fit with the petcock just to get an Idea .

FCRs are the best. Very smooth and the roller throttles don’t get stuck by vacuum like RS.
If the pumper circuits are clogged you might have to split them. That’s a bit of work.
Easy to tune and jets/gaskets are available from China very cheap.
No choke but just pump a few times before starting. Sounds good on idle 😎

The Mikuni TMR carbs sets have roller throttle sliders too, but very pricie........
BTW, how can carbs sound good on idle, except you are a fan of the RS clapping/rattleing sound,
WOT sounds good, yessssss!
