Carburetor identification.... Sorry
16 May 2024 11:16 - 16 May 2024 11:50
Hey all. I'm feeling very very stupid right now and am starting to second guess everything. I was lead to believe I am in possession of some vm29 type carbs. The bike they came with is a 1979 KZ1000A. After reading through some posts about jetting and carb identification I ordered pilots, mains, and air jets. Either the company I ordered from gave me false information about fitment or I have different carbs than I thought. I guess what I'd like help with here is identifying what I do actually have and if possible some resources to properly jet them for a pods/4-1 application.

Those are stock Z1000 Mikuni VM26MM and for pod use you need air corrector jets with just an increase of the mains and leave ALL other settings and jetting stock..
Air corrector jet kit.Kawasaki Z1,Z650,Z900,Z1000,Z1R.MK2, MIKUNI.LEDAR.PODS.K&N | eBay
Also unless physically damaged you should not replace any internal brass and if so only use genuine Mikuni or Keyster items..
Pods must be quality free flowing Unifilter,Ramair,APE, K&N,S&B and not cheap chinese items.Emgo, Hi level etc.

Zed, I was really hoping chime in on this. It seems like you're the guy for carburetor things. Thank you so much. It probably seems insignificant but genuinely my day is made just getting a concrete answer.

Agree Zed does know what he is talking about. From the pics it is difficult to tell if the set has more than a pilot screw (can not see if air screw as well) It does appear to have a vacuum port on #3 to run a petcock. But again can not see if there is a vent port on #2 or not. If not then the set may not be put together correctly. Not saying this is so, just can not tell from pics.

Vm26 but your idle adjuster has be replaced with a bolt and lock nut. Should be spring tensioned thumbscrew.

16 May 2024 14:16They are fuel screw only.Agree Zed does know what he is talking about. An additional air screw would identify them as Suzuki GS fitment which they are not.
They are also correctly assembled with vents on 2 and 4 and a vac port on 3.
The vent on 2 can just be seen behind the fuel pipe in pic 3 and the blank air screw castings on pic 4..

Should not be the vent port tube connector to the atmospher on carb #2 and #4?
Carb #1 vent should connected via rubber tub to #2 and the #3 vent via rubber tube to # 4?
The vent rubber tub between #2 and #3 is also missing!
The vaccum and port location is only functional after the throttle slider or butterfly position!
Correct me if i am wrong.

17 May 2024 01:10 - 17 May 2024 01:12Everthing is correct as you say except there is not and should not be a rubber tube link between 2 and 3 on VM's as these are a blank undrilled casting in that position and the tube would intefere with the throttle return spring.Should not be the vent port tube connector to the atmospher on carb #2 and #4?

The tubes connecting 1-2 and 3-4 are present and can be seen in pic 4 and the vent tubes which their air passages internally connect to for the atmospheric vents on 2-4 and vac port on 3 are simply currently not fitted.
