Anyway, I recently installed my o-ring types with a smear of non hardening Hylomar gasket sealer. I believe it helps.

Thanks for responding! The sides are fully intact. I plan to smear just a little bit of Hondabond HT on the manifold-facing part of the boot. Funny you should suggest the very same thing.

On a single cylinder 250cc Honda Helix scooter I had, the carb holder was dried and cracked. I took it in the house and scoured it with liquid dish soap to get all the grease off it.
Then I smeared the entire outside of it with high temp silicone sealer. Let dry. Then reinstalled.
My nephew now has that scooter and the cracked/repaired carb holder is still working ten years later!
