I'm in the U.K. and I have a 1983 KZ750LTD that was a Japanese import. The carbs got lost when sent for cleaning and I now have some Keihins from a European KZ750LTD. The carbs line up fine but I'm finding it impossible to get the carbs into the rubbers. I've tried everything I can think of and am concluding that I need new rubbers.. Before I splash out could anyone advise me whether it is possible that the European carbs would need a different size of manifold rubber from the original Japanese Keihins or is it something that's standard to all KZ750's of around that time?  Great forum.

Please post some photos of your carbs.  And when doing so, make sure to click "insert all" so the photos show up properly here.

Thanks for your reply. I attach photos. The internal diameter of the carb inlet is 33.66mm, external 39.81mm. The internal diameter of the rubber is 35.4mm. It's not perished, but the only way I could get them on was one by one, with heat, oil, and a vice. I'm  hoping to stretch them out a bit.  I was trying to get the bank of 4 onto the bike with a ratchet strap and hose picks and they weren't having it.
The carb has 1314 TB05 on it

Those carbs are the common/standard Keihin CV34's, which came stock on your bike.  From what you say, it's time for new carb boots.  The OEM boots are best, but expensive.  There are aftermarket parts that are much cheaper, but it's questionable regarding value and longevity.

Stupid question.......... I don't remember the 750/4 intake manifolds having the nipples you use to balance the carbs.........
These look more like Kz650 or Kz900 or early Kz1000 intake ducts which have those nipples.
Plus the mounting holes have also been elongated so they would fit the Kz750/4 head.

I bought some generic Z 750 L3 DOHC/4 83 pattern rubbers from a UK supplier, and the carbs went in just as they should. It was as Dr.G said, they were the wrong rubbers for the carbs. The bike must have had non stock carbs when I bought it back in the early nineties. The ID was a couple of mm greater and that made the difference.
