Help identifying carburetors was created by stinkfinger
Hi,
I'm collecting parts for an eventual KZ750 engine build using the Wiseco 810cc kit.  I've found a set of carbs that the seller thinks were off of a late 70s or early 80s KZ1000, but knows little else about them.  Can anyone help ID these carbs (and what would they be worth)?  Thanks!

They could be from a KZ1000 J.  Suzuki had similar carbs, but those used a choke cable rather than a knob on the side of the rack.

The cast top means they are probably 1981 / 1982.  I seem to remember some of the KZ1100's switched to the stamped metal tops in 1982, so likely from a KZ1000 - but they could be from a 1981 KZ1100.  I think the KZ650's with the CV carbs all came with the chromed metal stamped tops.

What are they worth?  You see them go for $50 and up.  Much depends on the condition.  Ready to run, probably $300-$400 or so.  If they have the white corrosion in the float bowl, they are next to worthless.

Thanks Jeff... interesting about the white corrosion.  Sounds like pulling the bowls is a necessary pre-purchase inspection, which I hadn't considered doing.

After a little internet picture comparing, it appears that they are BS34 Mikunis.  I was hoping that, coming from a bigger bike, they would be a bit bigger than the Keihin CV34s that I have now.  Folks seem to have a slight preference for the Mikuni, so they may still be worth getting.

I just need to figure out if they will physically mount to my bike.  Does anyone know if the spacing between carbs is the same on the KZ750 and KZ1000?

The inlet tract spacing is the same for Z650/750/900/1000 and 1100 aircooled fours.

Another question... will the Mikuni BS34s fit/seal correctly into my KZ750 carb holders (made for Keihin CV34s)?  How about the about the airbox boots?

Ok, Partzilla lists the same part number (16065-1132) for both KZ750-E2 (Keihin CV34) and GPZ750, which looks to use Mikuni BS34.  So, I believe the answer to my first question is 'yes'.

Have you contacted a member here who goes by username Nessism? He rebuilds carbs as a hobby and does a beautiful job on them. He might have a set that would work for you and can save you a lot of work and headaches.

Kehin and Mikuni carb holders are different.
Keihin carbs have a triangular locating groove cut close to the end of the carb spigot that goes in the carb holder.
Mikuni carbs have an evenly radiused groove cut in the middle of the carb spigot.

Do not mix these.  The carb won't locate correctly into the carb holder - and you will distend the rubber causing it to prematurely split.

16065-1135 are for the Mikuni BS32/BS34 carbs on the KZ1000.  The mount spacing is different - so you'd need to elongate the mounting holes on the carb holders INWARDS a little
The genuine Kawasaki version is still available - but very expensive..

We sell an aftermarket version of these.
