Stock air box boots with pods was created by Fabrique au Japon
I've been reading in this forum about pods and how they run. Buying the pods also eliminates the velocity stack that the stock air box  boots already incorporates. Seems that removing the velocity stack wouldn't perform as well as the engine should.

I'm getting a KZ1000 running again for a friend and its been sitting. The aircleaners are missing and I'm searching for some type of replacement.

Im looking at purchasing the stock air box boots and fitting some pods onto the boots. I want to take advantage of the velocity stack with an easy attached filter..

Is that what you all are doing when installing pods? Or are you just putting the pods themselves onto the carbs?

Individual filters (pods) go directly on the carburetors. You can also use velocity stacks with filters. If your KZ1000 has mechanical slide (VM) carburetors, pods are not really a problem. You may only need to change the air corrector jets.

Pods ( use only good quality well known free flowing brands) are fitted individually to each carb.
No need to extend them out on the air box trumpets but when using velocity stacks/bellmouthes the length can be tuned to suit the engine for specific rpms, so shorter for bottom end and longer for top end as a rough guide but the calculations involving swept volume vs rpm to get the required result is only worth it for the track.
Pods work perfectly if combined with air corrector jets ( see attached link) and you only need to increase in main jet size.

I finally fit an old set of K&N PODS to my RS34 Flat Slide carbs just to see how well they would work.
