My latest carb restoration project

Just finished these.  The stamped code reads 101 7A which I think means they are from a 1977 1000 LTD.  If anyone has a way to translate carb codes please share.

Anyway, cores are getting expensive but these were exceptionally clean to begin with.  There was literally no wear on the needles, which is typically a tell tale sign of usage.

The bodies were bead blasted and the hardware zinc plated after blasting.

New O-rings, float valves (because the originals wouldn't hold up the weight of the float,) gaskets, etc.

I make my own fuel tees; I fine it relaxing to whittle using my lathe.

Anyway, no good reason for posting this, just thought I share a few photos...

 

First those carbs look great, look brand new.  Not claiming to be correct, but several years ago I pulled down ID numbers from the Kawasaki parts site that listed 1017 part # was listed for the B1 and B2 models. No accelerator pump, no vacuum port for petcock so I would think that makes them before the 79 model year, but then what do I know. I know more about the IDs of  carbs that came stock on the 650s than on the 900 or 1000s.   I am sure that others will chime in with what they know.

They look very nice.  What are the needle numbers?  What size were the pilot and main jets?  They look like 26 mm from 1977.  76 had fuel/air screws.  77 had pilot adjusters.  I'm not sure but they may have used the same carbs in early 78.

 

Absolutely fab Nessism.
There is also something very therapeutic about dissemling, cleaning and reassembling carbs. Especially if they are spanking clean when they go back together again and all parts just slide back in place.

15 pilots which I believe are stock.  Mains are 112.5's which aren't.  I didn't remove the needles.  I usually don't mess with the slides other than cleaning unless there is a reason to do so.  

I get that you did not pull the needles, but did you notice the cutaway as this may help to determine what they came off of.  The attached have been poster here before but did not want to go hunting for the posts so am posting them here again.  Not saying they are correct but do provide more info as to stock internals but do not provide any ID info.. 

I'd like to know why the 1979 Standard uses 102.5 mains while the Shaft uses 110 mains, while every other spec is the same.

That is an interesting question. Sorry but do not remember who posted these in the past first, and am way to lazy to go looking for it. I take no credit for them, other than I copied them down the first time I saw them. As stated I am more a 650 guy than their bigger and older brother.

If those 15's are original and the carbs are '77 then they may have come off an LTD.  Or they could possibly be from a '78.  The needles would narrow it down.

I'll pull a slide and needle in the next couple of days.  No sense guessing...

1.5 slides and 5DL31 needles.  The clips were at the bottom (lifting) so I put them in the middle.  Changed the main jets to 105's too.  I think this is the stock configuration, but please correct me if this is wrong.
