Hey yall,

I am in the process of collecting parts for a '77 Kz1000 that I would like to be a restored version of what a performance minded individual would have done to hotrod their KZ1000 in say '78 or 1979 1980...?

**At this time the Engine is stock displacement, The head is ported, currently stock cams but will be looking to replace with a web or andrews cam. I have a murrys X pipe or a Kerker that will go on it, and Ill be running KN or UNI pods**

I have two options for "period correct" carbs: Vm28s vs Vm33s Smoothbore Round slides  and would like to hear what your options are on them.
1981 KZ750 Chopper, 1975 KZ400 , 1984 GPZ750 track build , Res 1977 kz1000a ,1977 kz1000a ...ect.

That depends on engine mods. The 28s will be better on a stock 70mm bore and compression. The 33s then conversely would work better on a 72mm with higher compression. A set of 29s would be a good compromise, but might be a budget buster.

Lots more information needed.

I'd go the 28 route.  They are relatively cheap and will flow a goodly amount of air.  VM29 Smoothbores are next step up the food chain but they will cost 3X more money.  Not worth it.  VM33's are best reserved for high cc engines where refinement is less of a priority.

Go with the VM28's.
They flow enough to feed porting, fast road cams and a pipe etc whilst keeping the low and mid range tractability you need on the street that you compromise with the bigger carbs.
