Very curious to know, what should my temps be across the header pipes? Also, where is the best place on the pipe(s) to take readings? Please and thank you!

I did an idling temperature test during a tuning session. The value changes greatly with small changes in location of the header where you take the temperature. So right at the very first bend of the header, on a hot day, idling a long time (20 minutes or half hour) the temperatures I was getting were about 575 deg F. They ranged from 568 to 580. Small changes, or even a small breeze could change it by 10 or 20 degrees easily.

I was using a non-contact infrared thermometer. The pipes were originally painted black but have a little rust on them. Shiny pipes tend to register lower temps, supposedly.

I'm getting variables from 250F to 325F across all pipes, temp readings were taken immediately after arriving home from a 10 mile ride. Put 2 shims under each needle, that brought me outta my nasty stumble off idle. That's with 130 mains in 1/4 and 135's in 2/3. Running 1982 Gpz1100 UNI pod filters, 4 into 1 Vance & Hines w/ megaphone + comp baffle. It smells rich @ idle, but still trying to figure out why the major stumble or hesitance hiccup going from a slow roll, then hard snap to bout 1/2 or 3/4 throttle. My idle adj screws are 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns out. Any ideas for what I can try to resolve my issue? Please do tell. Thanx!

What carbs do you have ?
130 and 135 mains are WAY too big if you have VM 26 or VM28 Mikunis and if you do then you need air corrector jets with pods to cure the stumble..
Here's a link to the air corrector thread you need to read to the end if you do have the above carbs.

Wow!! This had me checking out the authenticity of it being a real "Gpz". Much to my surprise, I've now come to find out it's a KZ1100 Shaft A2. So it looks a previous owner had put Gpz side covers on it. I went ahead and edited my profile to reflect the correction.

The carbs are BS34's.
