Raising the needle only richens and shifts the fuel pattern across the mid range bringing more fuel in earlier but it can only work with what the main supplies.
If the main is too small the needle can't produce any more fuel no matter how high it is lifted.
The old trick with the low end flat spot with pods was to up the pilot and lift the needle which is what i suspect is influencing your thinking.
This puts more fuel in the lean off idle mix to mask the flat spot but it also adds extra to the overall fueling giving an unwanted rich mix everywhere on up.
The air corrector jets reduce the air supply to the needle jet tube ( not the pilot jet ) at a specific point which targets the lean spot off idle but with a lesser fueling change than the pilot jet/needle method.
Above this the effect feathers off and doesn't heavily impact on the other fuel circuits .

If the main jet is correct for WFO (3/4 throttle+) and you need to richen things up in the mid-range, that when you would raise the needle position. Needles with different tapers are also available I believe.

Thanks again zed1015. Apologies on the restrictor location. My mistake.

Do you have any experience with the range of increase in air supply through the carburetors with pods over stock air intakes? I am thinking it must be more than 10% more but that's just a guess.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.
