Help rejetting carbs on 2 1980 KZ1000 B4 LTD's
07 Jul 2020 13:31
I'm looking for a place to start the rejetting process I understand there are a lot of variables involved. Elevation range 225-500. Bikes have original Mikuni VM29 smothbore carbs with 102.5 main jets and #15 pilots
1 Bike has K&N pods and stock exhaust
1 Bike has K&N pods and Kerker 4-1 exhaust
Any help would be much appreciated

Original carbs on those are VM28's ..
Not VM29 smoothbores.
Stock 28's measure 28 mm at the venturi and nearly 29 mm at the boot stub.
You should leave all settings stock.
Fit air corrector jets and go up a few of sizes on the mains to start and work down .
I'd go for 115's on the mains and go from there.
Kerker should end up around 110 to 112.5 and the stock exhaust 105 to 110.
If they have been fitted with 29 Smoothies then they already have air jets as stock.
To identify whether you have smoothbores look for the circled square casting as shown in the attached pic.
If this is not there they are not smoothbores.

You are correct sir, my mistake they are 28 mm see attached picture. So the air corrector jets will fit this model carb and take care or all low end needs?

If your running pods the correctors work great... the best way to tell what size carbs you have is to measure the bore on the engine side... these are 28mm with pump.
