I was thinking my petcock was toast as I couldn’t blow air through at any position. So I disassembled it and was able to get a small drill bit down the fuel intake holes and push some funk out. Did a quick clean and put it back together. It is currently functioning properly for the on/off/reserve settings.
Mine is the LTD B1 (77 1000) style with two intakes for gas, non vacuum. There are aftermarket units available, but I’d like to keep original where original is possible.
The problem I have is that the small mesh/screen cap fuel filter doesn’t have anywhere to sit on the reserve side, and the main stem has a crack in it.
Anyone know of a replacement for the stem pieces? Or has anyone come up with around to making their own pieces?
Clean the brass tube surface to bare metal and solder the crack with tin.
Don´t waste your time to seach for an new filter mesh, i use some small in-line filter to the carbs fuel line and a small Neodym magnet in the lower petcock filter cup to catch some rusty particels.
I've either replace the tube or replace the petcock. Soldering for something like that sucks. Learned the hard way wasting my time soldering float bowl overflow tubes. Replacing them was much easier and was a more sano repair.
Was putting an order together on z1Ent for some gaskets and such, and out of nowhere saw a replacement filter, but it was 5$ a piece, so it would actually be cheaper to cannibalize a cheaper petcock version for the pieces. As of now I'm leaning on replacing the whole stem, or possibly "painting" the current stem with a little JB Weld if I find one that won't interact with the gas/ethanol.
