Choke Pull, '82 KZ1000 LTD

Hi all, kind of a weird question; my KZ1000 choke pull only comes fully at about 1/4", then will click down to 1/8" at half. I assume this is not right, but how does this adjust?
Doesn't seem right; my KZ650 is a lever with much more play. Couple pictures below. Thanks!
