Carburetor intake boots

I have a 1981 Kz550LTD that I am restoring. I noticed the intake boots are very hard. My question is, should I try and soften the intake boots with wintergreen or should I just replace the air box and intake boots with POD filters. If I go with the POD filters what type should I use and will I have to change jets in the carburetor? Thanks

You mean the intake tubes from carb to air box ?
I would try and keep them especially if you have got CV carbs as you will never get it to run right with pods and CV's.

You can still buy them from Kawasaki, or from Partzilla here...

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Z1Enterprises.com has the airbox ducts. see ad link above. I'm pretty sure the KZ550 Ltd uses the same ducts as the 77-80 KZ650 models.
