CV Carbs
15 Dec 2019 08:26 - 15 Dec 2019 08:26
Need to replace my carbs on a 440 Ltd 1983, CV 32's, instead of bringing an old ebay set back to life, are there any brand new oem specs or replacement carbs that you recommend?
Thank you,

I've read where some people use VM 30's. I think refurbishing your old carbs would be easier path though. What's wrong with them?

Long story short, I had a cracked jet housing. The part the jet threads into, I put JB weld on it, with the intention of eventually changing them once I figure out why the bike wont rev past 4000, see other threads.
But I just found out the Jets in the 440 are to the west germany spec, instead of the US spec in the manual.
1. How can I confirm the bike is not from West Germany?
2. There is a US labelled jet sizing, and jet sizing that is unlabelled. Which do I go with?
To change the jets I am going to need to break that JBweld seal, hence my need for new carb.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHow do you know the jets are the west german spec? From the numbers on them?
I would consider getting a good used set of carburetors, then rebuilding them & install new diaphragms from JBM Industries.
Or you could get a new carb body off of EB. Here's one that looks pretty good, but I have no idea if it's correct for your 440.
A set of new carburetors I saw are over $300, plus you'd have to do some fettling, hence the suggestions.

West German spec jetting should be fine. Hopefully you have the full complement of jets.
That carb martin posted seems like a good find. Just make sure it's the same type as you need.

Just an FYI. From the 80-82 KZ440 factory service manual, the west german models had CV32 carburetors & the others had CV36; and the west german jetting seems to be richer. US models typically had lean jetting because of EPA regs.
The KZ400.com site has the manual plus a number of carburetor service bulletins in regards to the 440D models.
Warning: the forums there may harm your computer, but the tech pages seems to be fine.

All jetting is accounted for, even the plugs. The diaphragms are also both new frmo a month ago, because I found them both to be ripped.
So I am keeping the german jetting.
Can confirm it was german spec by the numbers stamped on the jets.
