Those look like the wrong gaskets to me. Are your carbs like those on the 1981 KZ1000-J1 shown in the link below? If so, the gasket looks different. Ed

Mine are slightly different. The gasket is identical to the ones that came out !!

Looks like the bowls are not designed to take advantage of that hole.

Glad to report that all is well and no leaks, so must be right!!
Still not running 100%. Its a bit fluffy at low revs but seems fine revving above 3/4 thousand rpm...

Great! Not leaking is an important step in the right direction.
