Cracked Jet mount
17 Oct 2019 17:36 - 17 Oct 2019 18:18
Hows your day? - As good as finding this crack?!
Bought the bike 3 months ago, been toying with it, trying to hunt a rev issue around 4000 RPMs, cleaned the jets and everything, but must have had them facing the other way. Think I found my problem.....
1981 Kawaski 440 Ltd
Whats the plan of action here?
Looking for a set of used carbs, a single carb, a link to where to get a brand new carb.... craigslist and ebay are quite useless for such a hyper specific part. I scanned them but came up with nothing but a rusty one.
Thanks in advance for any help.

What carbs are those? The pilot jet is normally the "tube" to the left/right of the main jet not infront/behind it depending which way round your holding the carb body.. Assuming that pilot is in the correct place that shouldn't affect performance/running assuming that no fuel can get up between pilot thread and body. I would try using a bit of chemical metal just to fill the "gap" and thread lock to ensure it didn't vibrate loose before searching for a new body.

It's a Keihin carb. Try ebay. Search "KZ440 carburetor" and then toggle "used". There are a few carb bodies. Not sure if they are the proper side though.

My knee jerk reaction was to try chemical metal, my feat was that if i had to replace the body and needed that jet I would have no way to remove it down the road. But I guess it leaves me the best option to test it before replacing it.
Thanks!

No one wants a broken carb body, but like Warren said, it looks like it's only on the thread area which doesn't seal out gas anyway. It may still work fine as is until you can find a new body.
If the body is cracked beyond the sealing surfaces, then it's no good.
And yes... Ed can identify any carb from 20 feet away, blindfolded.
