Hey all. This is my first post to the forums and I'm hoping for some advice. I recently purchased (mid-winter) an '82 KZ 440 LTD D4 with Mikuni VMs that had a some minor problems that were easily fixed (gummed up carbs, leaking gas tank and line) over the winter. I've got things fixed up and cleaned out to my knowledge. My problem is after I flip off the chokes, my idle shoots to around 3-3.5k rpm. As soon as i let the clutch out and she starts to take up, my rpms fall back to an appropriate range and work back up as I open the throttle. I'm not familiar with the Mikuni system overall, but I've gone through the manual for VMs and I'm wondering if this is just an issue of playing with the idle screw. Shes a fun bike to ride and get my legs again (exwife got the Shadow in the split), I just want to run this past those more knowledgeable than myself before I find a way damage the bike. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Not sure about those carbs though. VM's are not stock.

I had not looked into that. I'll have to check everything out for leaks.
