Hi, I have a KZ250 LTD frame is ‘85 and I believe engine is also ‘85 with number Kz250RE025711

Having trouble getting bike to start and stay running. Carb numbers I can make out are V546 with it being a Keihn. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The first aid for your carb Problem is to get a Service Manual you have to read first.

Hi sicirocco, I do have a service manual for the bike however the carbs in the manual are different to mine. I got the bike off a mate who got it off his old boss. The engine was changed out after the original dropped a valve so a few things are a little different even though the engine seems to match the year.

Edit- that manual is different to mine, well check it out.

The CVK is a much later series carb than what came on the bike. It is a good piece, but jetting and such are going to be unique to this situation. The pilot circuit on them is very susceptible to the tiniest little specs of dirt, and the only way to insure that all those tiny passages are perfectly clean is to completely disassemble tha carb, soak all the metal parts, including the body, blow out the passages with compressed air and finally follow up by pushing a tiny wire through each passage and blow again. I highly recommend using a top notch fuel filter Like the Golan Micro-mini. Most cheaper filters only catch down to 40 microns, while the Golan goes down to 10.

Bike in question is a 250 single based on the 200 single.

The other 250 was a twin. It later became the 305 twin.

Thanks for your help.

Can you tell me what this piece circled is for? Appears to be broken but unsure if it goes anywhere or if it is even blanked off. I’m currently away for two weeks so I can’t have a look.

That looks like a cap over the bowl vent. If that is the case, you will need to fix that . The bowl vent is crucial to proper operation.
There once was a plastic t-fitting there that connected to the carb that is no longer beside this one, and had a hose that ran over the air filter box. I will load a pic shortly.

The first pic is of the parts separately, the second is how they fit together.

If I wanted to keep the pod filter what would I need to do to fix this, seperate filter or run it into the pod somehow?

You will just need to find a way to hook up a vent hose. The hose vents to atmosphere, not into the air box.
The plastic tube that goes in the hole has an oring seal on it. If you are handy with tools, you could probably take a short bit of plastic tube and cut a small groove for an oring. The open end of the hose needs to be in still air, away from turbulence. On my ZRX, I have the ends situated behind the side covers. Turbulence will mess with the pressure in the float bowl and make for wonky running.
