The thread for the pilot jet is recessed right at the bottom of the tube.

I wish , there is no thread or pilot hole in the body of the carb , in fact looking through my collection i have found some more carb bodys with the same there is a hole in the casting but its not been machined so no thread and therefore no fuel pilot screw

They wont have been sold without a working pilot circuit. Some VM24ss Had Air screw and fuel Screws, others, the better ones, only had airscrews located on the side of the carb body.

Sure your not confusing the pilot with the fuel needle locations? It does look like there is a pilot jet in there from the picture.

Also looks like the choke pick up tube hole on the left carb in the picture is blocked.? It shouldn't be.
