Considering the limited luck I have had with my project gpz750, I have decided to start over.
To recap, I bought an 84 gpz750 with no carbs (and other bits)...
Got a set of carbs from a wrecker, which I believe to be Mikuni BS34’s, installed and nothing. If I shot gas in the carb intake it fired, but nothing if I didn’t.
So I pulled the carbs apart and they were spotless inside. Thought I would start at the engine and work backwards.
The boots on the engine are so hard that I had to use a 2x4 as a lever to get them on. So I have ordered some new engine intake boots.
Will reinstall the carbs after blowing out all ports with compressed air.
Also ordered pods as I don’t have an air box.
Am I missing something here?
I had fuel in the float bowls, but nothings seemed to make it to the engine.
Thanks. Assuming I am missing something simple.

Just because your carbs look spotless, it does not mean they are clean. Give them a thorough cleaning, especially the jets and fuel distribution passages, and chances are you will be feeding fuel to the motor, and have an engine running.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Also, I forgot to mention that I am suspicious of the diaphragms on the top of the carbs. The texture doesn’t seem to be of a uniform hardness.
Can’t imagine it’s a bad idea to replace these.

You will need a Dynojet kit or similar or the carb jetting with pods will be way off and the bike will run like crap.

As for rebuilding the carbs is concerned, it's best to do a full teardown and clean out. zeus.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/Mikuni_...Rebuild_Tutorial.pdf

Look at this post . www.kzrider.com/forum/3-carburetor/59856...-cleaner-in-cv-carbs

Best bet would be to try and find an airbox . Jetting for pods is a pane .

I probably will keep trying to find the stock air box. What is the best way to identify the carbs?
I have seen any numbers stamped into them anywhere.
I bought them from a wrecker, and just matched up the spacing. But they could be from any model with the same casting size and spacing.

I'd look at the various jets on the inside and compare to the jet specs for both the 750 and 1000/1100 and look for a match. The service manuals are available for download in the Articles folder here.

So after pulling the carbs apart again, discovered it has 110 main jet. Read somewhere that is stock for a 750.
Having a hell of a time with the starting enrichment circuit.
That being said I tried to be a slacker and not pull the choke apart. I guess I know what I’m doing tomorrow.
I have read about guys using guitar strings to clean the brass tube for the starter circuit. Any other suggestions?
I got some new intake manifold boots, as the old ones are super hard and I was afraid they don’t seal.
Before the bike is more than a garage ornament, I suspect a full rebuild and seal kit will be required.
The path to success is often the one with the most steps. Double that by looking for short cuts.
Thanks, I know this is uber-nub material...

You can soften the diaphragms by soaking them in petrol and to clean the jets you can use a copper cable cardell from a electrical wire instead of a guitar string.

After changing out the old intake boots and another round of compressed air, it started right up.
Runs like a scared cat.
Needs brake work then I’ll take it for a trip around the block.
Sounds deadly with an open header.
Thanks for all the advice!!!
