Has anyone ever put the carb assembly from a water cooled ZX900 on an air cooled gpz750?
I bought a basket case project, needing carbs. And bought some part before doing any research.
I know, you don’t have to say it...
Anyway, just wondering if there is a bleak glimmer of hope in this.
I want to put a big bore kit in the bike and thought carbs set up for a bigger engine would be the way to go.
Thanks for reading.

The carb spacing is different on the water cooled bikes so the ZX carbs will not bolt on without some creative solution.

So, I found another set at a local wrecker. They fit perfectly but don’t utilize the push/pull throttle. Is this an issue?
Not sure of what model the carbs are from...
Sorry got the newbie posts...

Those look like BS34 carbs, the same type of carb the 82 GPZ750 came with. That bike didn't have a push / pull setup but just a pull cable.

So is it fair to say they should work?
Also there is a fuel rail, it has two barbed connections. Would one be for the reserve line?

No reserve, each one is a fuel source for a pair of carbs.

I believe for the BS34s on the GPzs (they were also used on the Yamaha XS bikes) there is only one large (5/16”) barbed fitting that is for the fuel supply. There will also be two smaller (less than 1/4”) barbed fittings for the vent lines.

If you are going to mod the motor with a big bore kit and other hot rod goodies I'd find a set of VM28's
and not mess with those cv carb's.
1980 KZ650 F1
ZX750A1 motor.
Wiseco 810cc kit.
Zukiworks racing ported head.
VM 29 smooth bore's.
Dyna 2000 Ign. w/Dyna mini coil's
APE cylinder stud's and nut's.
APE valve spring's.
APE Track King clutch.
V/H KZ1000 sidewinder.
3.5x18 laced to a KZ1000 disk hub.
150/60/18 Shinko 006 Podium.
63" wheel base.

So I can’t get it to fire unless I squirt gas right in the carb intake. There is new fuel in the tank, and in the float bowls.
Though there is currently no air cleaner. It will not even pop once. Any ideas on where to start? All the vac ports are plugged, the vents between the carbs are not.
i noticed the barrels in the carbs do not move with the throttle, does airflow through the carb actuate these?
Thanks.

That’s my next step,
I was hoping it might run enough to do further troubleshooting, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
I was hoping to get further with before I leave town for a month or so. The bike needs damn near everything component serviced. At least the electrical seems to be in order.
Anyway, I’ll regroup.
Thanks for all the input.

Yeah, that never works for me. I always have to service used carbs or I end up fighting tuning problems until I do.
